About this place
Built in 1474 by Hugh O’Donnell for the Franciscan friars, this atmospheric ruin sits where the River Eske meets Donegal Bay. It’s the place where the Annals of the Four Masters — Ireland’s most important historical record — were written. The south transept, choir, and cloisters still stand. A quiet, hauntingly beautiful spot, and one of the most historically significant corners of the entire town.
